A One-of-a-Kind, Mixed-Media Process
Kendra Morrison has developed a unique process she calls Tinted Woodburning utilizing pyrography—that is, burning an image into a surface using heat. This process begins with burning the entire image into wood, using an array of marks to build up lines, patterns and textures to create a highly-detailed, dynamic image. Once the image has been burned into the wood, transparent pigments are slowly layered to accentuate the details of the image; sanding in between the layers brings out the unique grain of the wood. Finally, after the process of layering and sanding are completed, areas of collage are applied to infuse the image with additional color, texture, and whimsy.
